Também pelo respiro do cárter podem penetrar abrasivos no motor.
Em uma das extremidades do respiro do cárter, geralmente, existe um filtro de ar de malha metálica embebida em óleo ou de papel filtrante dobrado. O fluxo de ar que passa frente a boca do cano de ventilação, cria um ligeiro vácuo que atrai as exalações e os vapores formados no cárter. Quando um elemento filtrante do tipo malha metálica ficar muito impregnado de sujeira, o ar de ventilação do cárter passara a conter abrasivos que serão levados para o interior do motor e no caso de elementos de papel impregnados de sujeira, a circulação será reduzida ou interrompida completamente provocando outro tipo de anomalia.
Por essa razão, os elementos filtrantes e a tampa de respiro do cárter devem ser removidos e revisados em intervalso de 3.000 a 6.000 quilômetros, de acordo com as condições de serviço do motor.
Abrasivos através dos sistema de frenagem “Hidrovácuo”
Como este sistema de frenagem usa um cilindro acionado pelo vácuo da admissão e pela pressão atmosférica do ar, todas as vazes que se usam os freios, o ar passa da unidade hidrovácuo para a tubulação de admissão do motor. Consequentemente, se o purificador de ar no freio hidrovácuo não for revisado de acordo com as exigências, o ar como abrasivos será introduzido no motor por este meio.
Os purificadores de ar nos freios a vácuo exigem manutenção adequada.
Desgastes provocados por escoriação e corrosão

Limpeza e exames dos pistões
Vimos até agora como se inspecionar os anéis e como se fazer um diagnostico a partir da analise do estado dos mesmos. Passemos, portanto, ao exame dos pistões. Inicialmente deve-se preceder a uma boa limpeza das peças pois, assim, a análise será mais precisa, podendo-se observar uma série de detalhes que não seriam vistos por estarem cobertos por carvão, óleo, etc.
Mergulhe os conjuntos de pistões e bielas nu bom solvente liquido até que os depósitos de carvão amoleçam. Retire-os, então, e enxágüe-os de modo que fiquem totalmente limpos e deixe secar. Depois que os conjuntos estiverem secos, limpe cuidadosamente cada canaleta como um bom limpador de canaletas ou com a extremidade afiada de um anel quebrado, de modo que tanto as superfícies laterais, como toda a área do fundo da mesma, apareçam como metal limpo. Limpe cuidadosamente evitando raspar desnecessariamente o metal dos pistões.
Limpeza das canaletas.
Nunca limpe a área dos anéis e as saias dos pistões com escovas de aço, elétricas ou manuais, pois, elas tendem a arranhar os lados das canaletas e a arredondar os cantos externos, diminuindo assim a área de apoio do anel na canaleta.
É igualmente desaconselhada a utilização de limpeza com jatos de areia pois, esta prática, além de desgastar o pistão e a canaletas, deixa incrustado no pistão, abrasivos que irão fatalmente desgastar is cilindros e anéis.
As canaletas de pistões novos devem ser cuidadosamente examinadas para verificar se não há rebarbas que possam impedir a liberdade de movimentos dos anéis.
Depois de limpar cuidadosamente os pistões, examine-os atenciosamente, verificando se não existe rachaduras na cabeça ou na saia, ou deformação ou quebra nas canaletas. Os pistões que apresentarem esses defeitos ou que tiverem as saias escoriadas deverão ser substituídos.
