2007 Hyundai Elantra
Small cars are more popular than ever with recent fuel price fluctuations, but they aren't penalty boxes like they were ten years ago. Many cars in the sub-$20,000 price range are just as nice inside and drive just as capably as those approaching $30,000. The new Hyundai Elantra is one of those cars, and further evidence that the Koreans have figured out how to build world-class automobiles.

NY Auto Show Preview: Hyundai 2011 Sonata Hybrid

Car buyers now only have two choices if they are looking for a midsize hybrid sedan. There is the 2010 Fusion Hybrid from Ford and the Toyota made Camry Hybrid. That fact will change when Korean carmaker Hyundai unveils the 2011 Sonata Hybrid at the New York Auto Show in six weeks time.

This Hyundai release will somehow declare its intention of meeting on with the rival Japanese car maker Toyota that has been experiencing some setbacks with global recalls recently.

The new Hyundai Sonata was showcased during the Los Angeles Auto Show a few months ago. They also announced that to achieve better fuel mileage with their compact crossovers and midsize cars, V-6 engines will no longer installed for these vehicles.

The hybrid variant of the Hyundai Sonata will be its next best step to improve the fuel mileage of its range of products. The designers are making use of lithium polymer battery packs instead of nickel metal hydride that other carmakers like Ford, Honda, and Toyota use

Hyundai to debut new Santa Fe and ix35 crossover in Frankfurt

Hyundai announced it will unveil next generation Tucson crossover (to be called ix35 in Europe) and facelifted Santa Fe SUV at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month to strengthen its position as one of the leading brands in the European SUV segment.

The all-new ix35 crossover is going to replace the very successful Tucson SUV, and will receive its world premiere at the Show on the 15th September. Alongside the ix35 will be a facelifted Santa Fe mid-size SUV, which benefits from a wide range of engineering and cosmetic changes to fine-tune the driving experience and make it even more competitive versus rival D-segment SUVs. Both models will reach Hyundai showrooms across the globe in the next six months.

New Hyundai ix35

The ix35 represents a major step forward for Hyundai in Europe. It is the first SUV to be conceived and engineered in Europe at the company’s Frankfurt-based design and technical centers. The newcomer embodies Hyundai’s new design language ‘fluidic sculpture’ and carries over much of the confident, sweeping styling of the ix-onic concept car, which starred at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

Its revolutionary features begin with the exterior styling which is based on the bold ix-onic concept shown at Geneva Motor Show in March. The power output, fuel-efficiency, comfort and safety features have been all upgraded. Known by the project name LM, it took 36 months and 280 billion won (approx. US$225 million) to develop.

Some safety features that were not available in the first-generation Hyundai Tucson will now be vailable:

- Safety Rear-View Mirror: Shifting into reverse gear automatically turns on the rear-view camera which provides a wide-angle view of the rear on a 3.5-inch color LCD built into the rear-view mirror thus reducing the risk of accidents.

- Emergency Stop Signal: In the event of a panic stop, this feature automatically triggers the emergency hazard lights whose flashing alerts the driver behind thus reducing the risk of rear-end crashes.

- Downhill Brake Control and Hill-Start Assist Control: DBC allows the vehicle to maintain a safe speed on steep declines without having to use the brake while the hill-start assist helps a driver move up a steep or slippery hill without rolling backwards.

- Panoramic Sunroof

- Vehicle Dynamic Control: improves the safety of a vehicles stability by detecting and minimizing skids

The ix35 comes availablw with a 2L engine: either the all-new diesel R or gasoline Theta-II and is fitted with Hyundai’s all-new six-speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine meets the Euro-5 emissions standards and achieves 15.4 kilometers per liter fuel economy with maximum power output of 184 horsepower. The gasoline engine has a fuel economy of 11.7 kilometers per liter with a 166 horsepower. The diesel engine is offered in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel drive configurations, while gasoline engine is available only in front-wheel-drive.

Hyundai is aiming for sales of 16,000 units of the new Tucson ix this year in the Korean market and 40,000 units annually starting next year. From the year 2011, Hyundai predicts its sales to reach 300,000 units globally, with 260,000 units sold in the overseas market.

Hyundai Mobis is growing fast

Hyundai Mobis, the world's fastest growing auto parts maker, is eyeing to become the fifth largest car parts making company in the world by 2020!

In the beginning, Hyundai Mobis has been specialized in shipping container production, but later the company reorganized itself to become a specialized automobile parts maker, supporting the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group.

To fuel a significant part of the planned growth, Mobis is now looking to win contracts from other automobile makers.

We have already reported in September that Mobis set a record for Korea's auto parts industry when it won the largest parts supply contract ever won by a local parts maker. Mobis has won a $2 billion contract to supply chassis modules to Chrysler, which will be used in the new models of Dodge Durango and Jeep Cherokee. Both model will go into production by the end of 2010.
In addition, Hyundai Mobis also secured a three-year contract from BMW to supply rear lamps that will be used in BMW's 1-series. According to latest news from Korea Herald, Hyundai Mobis also won a contract from U.S. General Motors, to supply it with park brakes destined for future Cadillac cars. Both orders are worth around $90 million!

India September Car Sales Rise on Diwali

Car sales in India rose 21% in September as the onset of several festivals and easing borrowing costs led customers to buy vehicles from Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., Hyundai Motor Co. and General Motors Co.
[Cars]
File photo of an employee standing amid cars at the stockyard of General Motors India Ltd. plant at Halol, about 150 kms(93 miles) east from the western Indian city of Ahmedabad August 28, 2009.
Sales in the past month climbed to 129,683 cars from 107,517 a year earlier, showed data issued Tuesday by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, an industry lobby group.
This is the eight straight month of growth in car sales and follows August's 26% and July's 31% jump, which was the biggest percentage gain since February 2007.
Higher lending rates and banks' reluctance to lend in a slowing economy had crimped demand for automobiles in India last year. But, a series of government stimulus packages, including tax cuts, earlier this year and rate cuts by banks are now encouraging people to buy new vehicles.
Sales in September received a boost also from the start of several Hindu festivals, which are considered auspicious for buying new vehicles.

Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. unveils all-new 2010 Tucson

Photo is loading...
MANILA, Philippines - With its functional styling, solid build quality, a choice between fuel-efficient gasoline and common-rail diesel engines, and a price tag that’s hard to beat, the Hyundai Tucson has been a perennial hot-seller in the compact SUV stakes.
And while that state of affairs might cause some automakers to rest on their laurels, Hyundai had absolutely no intention of doing so. Hence the head-turning all-new 2010 Tucson that was unveiled to much Gary V.-led song-and-dance fanfare last week at the A. Venue hall in Makati Ave.
With its provocative front end and curvaceous lines, the 2010 Tucson’s head-turning styling should handily vault it to the top of the wishlist of people shopping for a compact SUV. The flowing and graceful design starts at the front with a sexy hood character line, followed by a “Z” form side character line that exhibits a strong and artistic 3-dimensional embellishment for a dynamic sports car-like profile.
This sporty theme is continued at the rear, with sharp-looking taillights, an oversized two-tone rear bumper, a rear spoiler, and a sloping backlight.
Putting even more attitude to the all-new Tucson’s style is Hyundai’s new design identity – a hexagonal grille in chrome and high-gloss black. Tracing its roots to the Hyundai ix-onic concept previewed at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show, this design is the new defining face of Hyundai’s family of future automobiles, beginning with the all-new Tucson.

Hyundai Tiburon Streat Concept

Hyundai conducted minor tweaks to the ‘GK’ model in 2005, for the outgoing named 2006. The vehicle incorporated reworked sleeker blackened headlights, redesigned rear tail lights, a different range of alloy wheel designs, colored stitching on leather seats (half leather seats available for the 1.6 range). A popular modification, as promoted on www.newtiburon.com, saw owners of the 2003 vehicle removing the air-filter resonator box. The resonator box was located directly in front of the front left hand side wheel, behind the fender. This allowed for a greater airflow to the air filter, gaining a minimal increase of (BHP). Hyundai, seeking cost cuts, adopted this modification for 2004+ models.

The 2007 model has seen minor changes in interior & exterior design. Most notably the previously amber gauge and button lighting has been changed to blue and white, similar to what can be found in the line. Exterior changes include muted side scalloping, new headlights and grille design and revised tail lights.

Early-bird ‘YF’ 2011 Hyundai Sonata fans YFLove.net have put together this illustration, showing their idea of what we might be able to expect when the camouflage finally comes off the next all-new Sonata.

The new Sonata has been spotted around South Korea in recent weeks during testing, and the more revealing the camouflage becomes, the more we can probably expect to see of these artist renderings. (You will have seen one illustration that’s been floating around for a while now.)

Whatever the eventual lines of the ‘YF’ Sonata, it’s clear that Hyundai’s volume-selling family sedan is taking on a much sharper, style-focused appearance.

From the coupe-like roofline to the long sloping bonnet and sharply angled headlights, Hyundai is obviously planning big things for the 2010 Sonata.

Hyundai i-Flow Concept – First Diesel-Electric Hybrid

Geneva Motor Show is the Hyundai i-Flow concept, finally unveiling its curvaceous shape and the technology punches by the South Korean manufacturer.

Hyundai i-Flow Concept

According to Hyundai, the i-Flow concept is a preview of the D-segment mid-size saloon contender that “carries forward the company’s evocative new ‘fluidic sculpture’ philosophy.” The flowing, elegant lines are joined by the long tail and the short front overhang along with low roofline and swoopy styling that combine to give the concept a futuristic look.
