The events began at CHAMROUSSE on February 2nd. In fact that day, the competitors tried out the downhill trails for men and women, having arrived the day before at the Village Bachat-Bouloud, which was greatly appreciated for its comfort and calm. The weather was splendid and all the competitors were enthusiastic. The trail was in excellent condition, as M. URBAN, technical delegate of the International Ski Federation for the men's events, and Odette PERRET for the ladies' events were pleased to confirm.
So, at the conclusion of the first training session the atmosphere was excellent. The games had got off to a good start. Later the unreliable weather conditions upset a little the normal progress of events. There were frequent snow falls, particularly on February 3rd and 4th which necessitated much damming of the trails. However, the training sessions continued as usual, and the non-stop Downhill for men took place on February 7th in sunshine on an excellent trail, even though it had again snowed during the preceding night.
